What makeup should I wear for the semi-formal ???

I have a red dress, am wearing silver jewlry and shoes. I am fair skinned, have brown hair and Hazel-green eyes.

What color eyeshadow and what type of make up wil go well with my outfit.

balls and galas call for dramatic eyes. go with a traditional smokey eye and a super-glossy pale pink lip. reds are too hard to match and hard to wear if you are young...

first, get a clean canvas with concealer, foundation, and powder. pick a blush that looks natural and get some gloss on those lips.

here is my smokey eye...

start with a thin layer of shadow primer

black or dark grey shadow in the shape of a sideways V on the corner of the eye, working into the crease with a flat shadow brush.

lighter grey shimmer shadow over the lid with a contour shadow brush, blending into the first darker shade

silvery/champagne shimmer shadow under the brow bone and dotted on inner corners of eyes with full shadow brush

black liner all the way across top lid, slightly thicker on outer edges, and 3/4 way across bottom

sweep thin line of medium shimmer grey under lower lash line, below and slightly over black liner

curl lashes and add 2 coats of volumizing black mascara

-you can also do a smokey eye with shades of brown, purple, green... any color. but greys will go best wth your dress.

stila (at sephora) has a smokey eye kit that has 4 shadows in a palette...push a tiny button and a voice speaks instructions to you. there is also a holographic image of an eye that shows where the different shades go when you turn it.

for drugstore palettes, try revlon, loreal, covergirl and maybelline. i know all of those lines carry them, but not sure of the names.

avon also has a shadow quads. "sueded nudes" is a good one for browns, and "smokey eyes" is good for greys, although the greys are on the lighter side.

add a tiny bit of shimmer powder on your cheekbones and shoulders.

Instead of investing in actually purchasing makeup, I'd recommend going to the mall and having Mac or Sephora do it for you. They only charge about 20 dollars depending on what you want, and it saves you the hassle of having to worry if it looks good enough.

Only put focus and drama in one area eg strong eyemake-up like mascara, liner and shade,(purple, dark chocolate brown or charcoal grey goes well with green eyes) with lipgloss on the lips, or strong lipcolor like wine red or a red that matches your dress with only a natural clump free mascara.
