Hey, we've got the same problem! Okay, I know the dresses and clothing you're talking about. And, I HATE those clothes. They just make us look worse. Ironically, I find that something a bit form fitting makes us look better (flattering to our figure). There's got to be one body part you've got that is pretty nice. Maybe your face, legs, chest.....something! Play it up. Get your hair done for the party. I've seen some pretty stylish black dresses on-line at Lane Bryant's website. Or go to their store. And, don't forget some undergarments that fit right. HAVE fun at the parties!!!

www.lanebryant.com has a lot of curvy girl dresses there are also links from there to other sister stores.

wear like a cocktail dress that just brushes you knees and a plunging neckline. You're 50, but I'm sure you're gorgeous!! have fun at the party and don't freak out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Palazzo pants (have a split skirt over top-- looks like a skirt when you're standing!) and a cute evening top!

Or, a nice black dress that you are comfortable in, and a great peice of jewelry!

I would do the pants and sparkly top thing if you can find them locally that aren't to expensive. Good luck.

Go with black. Either black pants and a cute sparkly top or a simple (not tight) black dress. Just make sure nothing is hanging out and you'll be fine. Black is slimming and a nice sparkly festive top will be fun and cute. As for the people that will be at both parties...they will probably be wearing the same outfit to both. :) Or you could get two tops to go with the same pants.

Go with something black and elegant. Some nice rhinestone jewelry would be a great touch but make sure you don't pick up anything guady. The most important thing though is to be cool and confident. If you think you look bad it will show. Good Luck!

black is good or something with seasonal colors. conservative. how much you want to spend will play a roll. petite sophisticate may have something. I was able to find something last year that looked nice for around $100 at Foleys.

A semi-formal you can wear either some nice slacks with a nice shirt, or you can do a black dress. Have you ever worn wrap dresses or shirts before? They look great on anyone because they serve many purposes. Then can create the illusion of an hour glass shape, slim the waist, add curves and weight to a skinny figure...so they can really be worn by both thin and not so thin.

Any dark color will work for you, in a knee length wrap, or faux wrap with side rouching, dress with some nice black heels.

If you're looking more towards pants, try some black, or dark brown, pinstripe pants an inch or two longer than your inseam with 2-3" heels (creates a longer leg) with a nice cashmere sweater.

if you're trying to mute your curves, I would say to go for dark colors. It's cold now so I would wear pants....like if u wear a black shirt and black pants, you could make the outfit "pop" with your accessories. :) Just something that would make you feel good about yourself. :) Make sure to be proud of who you are and what you look like....:)

Start with good undergarments, and don't shrug off shapewear. It gives a smoother line reducing bumps and bulges, so clothing fits better, and you look slimmer.

Also make sure that you are buying the right sized clothing. You don't want hems to fall too long, or jackets to be bulky. The better the fit, the more sophisticated you will look. Petite-Plus can be harder to find, but it's not impossible.

Look for bias cuts, wrap tops and jackets, knee length or longer for skirts and dresses so you don't look shorter or heavier, or like you are trying to be too young. Wider leg pants and things that are tailored to fit your shape, and not bulk over it, can hide problem areas, and give you a smoother line.

Seperates would be a good choice here so you could mix and match, and not end up wearing the same outfit to both parties where the people attending are the same. And a two peice set could be worn as seperates with different things as well.

Then finish it off with darker hose, which is slimming, and dark pumps, preferrably black for both. Black is slimming, and won't draw the eye down. When you keep attention on your feet with light, bright, or flashy shoes you can make your legs look shorter and heavier. A basic black shoe will take you anywhere, from day to evening, and match almost any outfit you choose to wear.

Keep it simple and dressy, like this one in black. It's a sling back, which works great for evening wear, without cutting your leg line the way an ankle strap does, or leaving your toes exposed to the cold.

Have fun, be yourself, and you'll make a good impression no matter what you choose to wear!
